Any currency can be easily exchanged to Turkish Lira in Side, thanks to some of the banks, currency exchange offices, ATMs, and PTTs (Post Offices). So, if you are travelling from the UK or any other country, don’t worry about money exchange at all and concentrate on the myriads of fun activities that are waiting for you in the resort town.
Let’s explore the money exchange options we’ve stated above.
Although banks don’t offer an encouraging exchange rate, they can still be used as the primary and trustworthy source of money exchange. In Side, top Turkish banks can be found dotted here and there; however, be known that they are only open from Monday to Friday. It is best recommended that you go to a bank for exchanging your cash when you don’t find any other options. Also, if your currency is lesser known, some of the branches of these banks could offer an exchange service.
ATMs can come in handy when the banks are closed. However, since they are linked to their respective banks, you cannot expect a better exchange rate. A whopping 2% to 3% might be charged on a single transaction. Before you go to an ATM, know that only certain ATMs would allow exchange the currency. Most of them would only issue TL.
3. Post Office (PTT)
Any post office in Side can also exchange major currencies to TL and the bigger ones also deal in lesser-known currencies. But these places have opening hours and days just like that of the banks. They operate from Monday to Friday, opening at 9 am and closing at 5 pm. You can easily have your euros/dollars/sterling exchanged and the process is also not tiring. However, bear in mind that they don’t deal in Scottish notes.
4. Exchange Offices (Döviz Bürosu)
Döviz Bürosu or Currency Exchange Offices are the most preferred sources of money exchange in Side. You can have them at any shopping complex such as Manavgat Town Center, Side Town Center, and shopping malls. Nearly all the offices deal in major currencies and for your information, the exchange rate offered is much better than those offered by the banks. Some of the offices don’t even charge any commission or “komisyon”. If you further want to go for a better exchange rate, exchange your money in any of the offices located in marketplaces rather than near tourist attractions.
One more thing: these offices also operate in major airports, but the exchange rate there is not favourable.
